Mindup research12/19/2023 ![]() ![]() MindUP is central to our strategic vision, it supports us to create a whole-school culture of gratitude, optimism, happiness and respect within which we can all grow and flourish. Augustina Liu, the creative mind behind MindUp, is a prestigious product/UX designer applying user-centric design principles in B2B, B2C, and internal tool products for better experiences. Students learn to self-regulate behavior and mindfully engage in focused concentration required for academic success. This program is composed of 15 lessons based in neuroscience. The interactive teaching and learning approaches, complemented by whole-school mindful practices, help create an exciting learning environment within which children can thrive academically, socially and emotionally. MindUP (Scholastic Books, 201 1) is grounded in research on developmental neuroscience (Diamond, 2009, 2012), contemplative science and mindfulness (Roeser & Zelazo, 2012), social and emotional. MindUP is a research-based training program for educators and children. This core mindful breathing exercise which takes place three times a day, enables pupils and staff to calm their minds, focus and get ready to learn. The MindUP lessons are complemented by the ‘Brain Break’. This research-based curriculum features 15 lessons that use the latest information about the brain to dramatically improve behavior and learning for all. The unique evidence-based framework provides knowledge and understanding of neuroscience, mindful awareness, positive psychology and mindful practices to affect positive change within the classroom and beyond. The 15-lesson curriculum includes practices developed to help children improve their focus, manage their emotions and face challenges with resilience, kindness and compassion. Motivated by this love of nature, she decided to complete a degree in geology and undertake related PhD research. ![]() SUPPORTING MENTAL HEALTH AND WELLBEING THROUGH MINDUPĪt Our Lady & St Benedict Catholic Academy, we are proud to be part of the growing network of MindUP schools who promote the mental health and emotional wellbeing of our whole school community. Karen Bax, the MindUP for Young Children project is entering the final year of implementation research funded by the Public Health Agency of Canada. The MindUP program helps educators learn how to stay attuned and responsive in their relationships with their children. The Trauma-Informed Framework informs educators on why they should meet their children’s needs, even if challenged with external stressors and adversity. There is also a component where the parents and children work together to help reinforce transferring the skills to their everyday lives. The MindUP lessons are also adapted into parent sessions and implemented with Merrymount families in concurrent weekly sessions for parents and young children. Participants: Children Ages 9 -12 (Grades 4 to 7) and their teachers. Research Team: Kimberly Schonert-Reichl, Robert Roeser, Adele Diamond, Tim Oberlander, Molly Lawlor, Eva Oberle, Jenna Whitehead, Jennifer Kitil, and Jacqueline Maloney. Lesson topics include: How Our Brains Work, Mindful Listening, Perspective Taking, Choosing Optimism, and Expressing Gratitude. The study will identify changes in social-emotional behaviour, executive functioning, classroom climate, academic skills, and self-concept through a combination. Project Title: Evaluations of the MindUP Program. These lessons integrate attentional, self-regulatory, and social-emotional strategies for children. The project builds on MindUP, which is a universal, school-based education program that incorporates neuroscience, mindful awareness, and positive psychology in 15 teacher-led lessons. ![]()
